Misinformation Control

Noam Chomsky, in his book "Necessary Illusions", tells of how America encourages it gives their citizens to verbally challenge their corrupt system. This differs from other countries, like North Korea, with censorship. This gives mental power to the people and creates an illusion of control. But once tangible change is working to be achieved, it is shut down.

"The most effective device is the bounding of the thinkable, achieved by the tolerating debate, even encouraging it, though only within proper limits." Page 105

With simple deductions of freedom like the freedom of accurate information, it keeps citizens confined in whatever mindframe is fed to them. Months ago, there was a plane  allegedly lost traveling from America to Malaysia. It was a great mystery. Many have speculated that maybe it did not disappear, but rather the U.S. government took part in its displacement. In a BBC News interview, a woman whose loved one was on the flight said she felt that Americans were being "hoodwinked" which the claims they were being presented. This type of confusion and distraction leaves the American public feeling helpless, thus being a great method of control while keeping the plea of freedom.
